Faculty Profile
Dr. Thomas Seiler is a professor and Chair of the Master of Science in Accounting Program and Chair of the Accounting, Finance and Economics Department comprising the Accounting, Finance, Financial Planning, Forensic Accounting, Business Forensics, Business Economics, and Master of Science in Accounting programs at Franklin University. In addition to education, Tom has enjoyed careers in public accounting, corporate accounting, and law.
Dr. Seiler has more than 24 years of significant accounting experience. As a public accountant, he worked for both Arthur Andersen in Columbus, Ohio and Coopers and Lybrand (currently PricewaterhouseCoopers) in Ft. Myers, Florida. He has audited business entities in various industries including natural gas distribution, telecommunications, manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, retail, and local governmental entities. As a corporate accountant, he managed financial operations for the Legal Division of Bank One Corporation (Currently JPMorgan Chase) consisting of approximately 450 employees spread across 14 states.
Dr. Seiler has more than six years of significant law experience. As an attorney, he practiced law for Bank One Corporation (currently JPMorgan Chase) in the areas of commercial real estate, procurement of goods and services, technology, retail banking, and intellectual property. In addition, he served as general counsel for an Internet-only bank – Wingspanbank.com.
Dr. Seiler has served as President of Faculty Senate and as a member of the Assessment Committee and Instructional Professional Development Committee at Franklin University.
Dr. Seiler is the Chair of the Board of Trustees and past President of the Central Ohio Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors. Other community service includes service on the Central Ohio Student Scholarship Committee for the Ohio Society of CPAs, as a member of the conference planning committee for the annual Ohio Trends in Fraud Conference held each spring, and as an instructor for Junior Achievement. Additionally, in November 2008, he served as Chair of a large two and one-half day Institute of Internal Auditors regional conference.
Dr. Seiler holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in accounting from Capital University (Bexley, Ohio), Juris Doctor degree from Capital University Law School (Columbus, Ohio), and a Doctor of Business Administration in Accounting degree from Argosy University (Sarasota, FL). He is an Ohio registered Certified Public Accountant and was previously licensed to practice law in Ohio.
