James Pierson is a Certified Public Accountant and Attorney who serves as Lead Faculty Accounting for taxation and business law. Jim has enjoyed an extensive and diverse career in corporate and public accounting.
Jim’s 27 years of accounting experience includes over six years in public accounting primarily with Ernst & Young in Dayton, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he served as a tax accountant and tax manager to individuals, pass-through entities and corporations in the areas of tax compliance, planning and tax controversy matters . Jim’s corporate tax experience includes serving as a tax director for Weirton Steel Corporation, West Virginia and as Tax Director for the IT Group (subsequently acquired by the Shaw Group), an environmental engineering and construction company headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, with tax responsibilities nationwide. Jim oversaw all state, federal and international tax responsibilities for compliance, planning, controversy and income tax accounting for these publicly traded entities with operations in excess of $1 Billion annually during his tenure.
Jim’s career also includes extensive accounting and financial reporting experience in the engineering and construction industry; most notably with The Shaw Group, a former Fortune 500 Company, and Westinghouse Electric Company LLC, a global nuclear services provider, in Pittsburgh, PA. Jim has served in various senior financial reporting roles at these companies, to include corporate controller with the IT Group, group controller and group CFO at The Shaw Group, and director for finance transformation companywide and group controller for all nuclear service operations at Westinghouse.
Jim is a member of the Tax Section of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Tax Section of the American Bar Association (ABA), and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).
Jim holds a Bachelor’s of Science with majors in accounting and management from Youngstown State University, a Master of Science in taxation from Robert Morris University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Duquesne University. He is a licensed certified public accountant in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and a licensed attorney in Pennsylvania.
